Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi's conservation agriculture is a grassroots resource-conserving organic and sustainable agricultural method that integrates appropriate soil tillage and soil fertility management practices with food production and food processing and marketing to improve smallholder farmers' livelihoods.
Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi believes that proactive measures must be taken to give smallholder farmers all the information necessary for successful agricultural production and sustainable development. For optimal effect, this information must be in languages that smallholder farmers understand.
Use of appropriate languages has been one of the major challenges to development organizations in developing countries. To overcome this and other such challenges, Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi uses Kenya's native languages in its agricultural research and agricultural education and extension programs.
