Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi After-School Program (HAKU-ASP) provides educational opportunities to school-aged children in Mũtũngũrũ, central Kenya. The program gives children access to books in order to allow them to learn, to share, and to be part of a reading culture that can prepare them to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures in today's increasingly interconnected world.

HAKU-ASP is a project of Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi that is managed under the Youth Advancement and Development Initiative (YADI). YADI is one of Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi's 10 core development initiatives.

Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi After-School Program has received children's books that were donated by two elementary schools in Laramie, Wyoming: the Snowy Range Academy, and the Spring Creek Elementary School. The First-Interstate Bank of Laramie donated funds to help get some of the children's books sent to Kenya in November, 2009. The remaining books were sent to the children in Mũtũngũrũ in December 2010. HAKU-ASP children are now able to borrow these books and to read them at their own homes. This borrowing has allowed them to read a larger array of children's books that contribute to their academic development.

In December 2010, Harakati ya Kilimo-Uhifadhi After-School Program issued certificates of participation to 90 children who were in the program in 2009-2010. Beginning in February 2011, HAKU-ASP began an accelerated math and English language program for children in grades 7 and 8 in order to help them learm and attain better grades in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Attaining better grades would, in turn, allow them to join better national high schools and thus improve their academic careers. HAKU-ASP has 150 enrolled children of grades 1-8 and three part-time teachers.
